Carterton Community College
The dark nights are firmly in the
past but where is the sun? Summer
evenings are meant to be light and
bright with that beautiful colour
in the sky that makes this area
so special to live in. It still feels
like autumn! At least the College
continues to demonstrate a shining
light locally if the sun does not.
Carterton Community College is
number one in the county in the
new government measures for
academic performance for progress.
Our Year 11 students will be hard
pushed to better last year’s score of
+0.59 but early indications predict
they will match or even exceed this
record-breaking score. I cannot fault
their dedication to their studies, and
their endeavour towards being the
best they can possibly be reflects
what a fantastic group of young
people they are with the highest
standards and aspirations. This
attitude does not come by chance
and highlights the outstanding work
by staff and parents to make these
individuals into the role models they
have become.
We await the first set of results
from our first set of Year 13
students coming through since
we were graciously awarded 11-
18 status in June 2014. Year 12
students are also taking external
public AS examinations in 14
subjects which is a credit to the
size of the school demonstrating its
bespoke and personal nature within
our community. Students aspiring
to medical professions along
with potential lawyers, engineers,
scientists and media moguls have
a fantastic opportunity ahead of
them given to them by the College
and I know they will grasp it with
both hands.
Continuing our long list of
sporting endeavours, the College
is celebrating some extraordinary
