I’ve sat watching at least three seasons so far today (thankfully no snow – yet!)
and thinking about what summer at BFBS BN means…
Well, there is obviously the opportunity to try and grab some sunshine and make
the most of a heap of county-wide events. On camp there are BBQs, Families
Days and music festivals – plenty to keep us out of trouble. But for the Armed
Forces and their families attending is often easier said than done.
Family days out together are all the more precious it seems, because finding
the time is in a large part governed by deployments, exercises and a host of
other responsibilities serving families have to work
around. So it has been great to be able to offer
passes and tickets to some of Oxfordshire’s
biggest days out to some of our families
on a daily basis.
Alex is away on a three month
operational tour, getting a flavour
of forces life overseas, which
is a reality for so many in our
community. Hermina Campbell,
who has been joined us in the
interim, has been learning what
it is we love so much about
West Oxfordshire life – and
so far we have all left a good
impression on her!

BFBS Brize Norton was launched in March 2014 as part of the British
Forces Broadcasting Service’s UK Bases network.
Since then the station has been broadcasting live on DAB digital radio
across Oxfordshire, serving both civilian and forces listeners.
Your local presenters are Alex Gill – who hosts the weekday ‘Brize
Breakfast’ between 6.30am and 10am Monday to Friday – and Jo Thoenes,
who presents the weekday afternoon show between 1pm and 4pm.
Alex is currently away on an operational tour. Until he is back his position
at Brize is filled by Hermina Campbell.
