Carterton Crier Issue 2_lowres - page 35

Dear Residents,
This magazine exists to inform you of what is going on in the town;
as such, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on how Carterton
has developed.
As you are all aware, our town now has a Master Plan, which can be
viewed, along with the summary report on carterton.net. The WODC
Local Plan is still with the inspectors for scrutiny and this should be
reported very soon.
We have welcomed several new businesses to the town including
Mountain Mania, The Tanning Shop, The Siege of Orleans, Hacketts
and Asda.  Whilst this is a positive move for the growth of the town,
the Council are very much involved in making sure that we have the
infrastructure to support future development and also to look at the
second phase of the Master Plan, which is the regeneration of the Town
Centre.  I do hope as many of you as possible will become involved in this
project.  We also are very aware that we need land for sporting facilities
and we hope that the District, in conjunction with Carterton Town
Council, go ahead with the proposed second phase of the leisure centre.
On another note the Council is looking at replacing the very worn out
planters and bollards which will enhance the look of the Town Centre.
How wonderful it was to see so many of you at the switching on of our
Christmas lights and lantern parade, although it rained very heavily, this
did not detract from everybody enjoying themselves and raising money
for charity. The Mayor’s Carol Service on 19th December was attended
by 150 people; they were entertained by choir members from Carterton
Community College, Gateway and Carterton Primary Schools, as well
as Yarnton Brass Band who were runners-up in our Carterton Summer
Concerts Competition. The 19th was also when Flying Officer Ted Little
had his Christmas Party at Brownes Hall. It was a pleasure to see the
children enjoy the magician, disco, a visit from Father Christmas and an
appearance from Frozen’s Olaf.
I also have to give a massive thank you to the many, many residents
of Carterton and also members of RAF Brize Norton who have kindly
donated to the Carterton Community Foodbank.  Because of your
generosity, on 22nd December I was able to deliver 25 hampers to
vulnerable families in Carterton. A huge thank you as well to all the
volunteers who helped me deliver the packages.
Furthermore, Carterton Town Council would like to say Happy 90th
Birthday to Her Majesty the Queen for 21st April.
Finally, thanks to Carterton’s residents for making my 2015 as Mayor so
enjoyable, I hope the rest of this year is peaceful and prosperous for all
of you.
Yours sincerely,
Cllr Mrs Lynn Little
Mayor of Carterton
