Schools Out started life as The Gay
Teachers Association in 1974 and since
then it has changed the lives of thousands
of LGBT students and teachers by taking
part in research, debate and curriculum
development. The organisation has
worked with the Department for
Education, OFSTED, The Equality
and Human Rights Commission, local
authorities and trade unions. Schools
Out has also been involved in various
DfE consultations.
School
s Out Conference
Join Schools Out at this informative
conference which will be looking at the
lessons learnt on how to make schools
truly inclusive for LGBT people.
There will be loads of guest speakers and
workshops in what has proven to be a
lively and engaging event in past years.
The conference is for all who educate, in
schools, FE, HE, and informal education
settings.
Schools Out would also particularly
like to encourage people to attend who
have been active in LGBT education
campaigns in the past as we want you
to share what you have learned with a
wider audience and as part of our heritage
project.
There will also be an evening programme
of entertainment to mark the theme of
2014’s LGBT History Month - Music!
With thanks to ATL for sponsoring the
conference.

The University has been placed in the top 2 per cent of universities in
the world by the Times Higher Education University World Rankings.
The results of the 2013 National Student Survey revealed that student
satisfaction has risen to 88 per cent which is above the national
average.
The University is a member the LGB charity Stonewall Diversity
Champions Programme and we are pro-active in working to ensure
we provide an inclusive gay-friendly environment for both staff and
students. This is acknowledged in our good performance in
Stonewalls Workplace Equality Index and Gay By Degree Survey.
We’re not just a great place to study, but to work too. In a recent
staff survey, 91 per cent of respondents said the University is a
good place to work. Our staff development programmes support
teaching, research, academic and personal development, offering
real career progression opportunities. Set in an historic and vibrant
waterfront city, you couldn’t ask for more.
