Welcome
3) Foster good relations across
all characteristics - between
people who share a protected
characteristic and people who do
not share it.
What is useful is that Ofsted are very
clear what they expect from schools
on the issue and have put out plenty
of information making it explicit
that schools must tackle the issue.
We have been instrumental (pun
intended) in providing crucial free
resources for teachers to meet the
needs of the law and Ofsted. There
are innumerable free resources on
all three of our websites so teachers,
lecturers youth workers etc. can
usualise LGBT people and issues
in their work with young people.
Gone are the days where we have to
crave understanding of the victims
of prejudice. Now the spotlight is
educating out prejudice
giving educators the tools
to celebrate the diversity of
the LGBT community and
enable people to explore the
richness of the community.
Elly Barnes has set up her
Educate and Celebrate
workshops and the LGBT
Youth North West group
train teachers and students
alike in the North West as
part of their work.
We as part of the
celebrations of being 40 are
organizing competitions
that will inspire students to
produce valuable resources
for schools.
Our film production
competition in association
with The Harvey Milk
Foundation invites students of
any age to make a short film about
LGBT activists., We offer them a list
of British activists to choose from
and also ask them to include Harvey
Milk.. We are also working with
the ATL (Association of Teachers
and Lecturers) to offer students the
chance to make an E book for early
readers that is inclusive of all the
protected strands.
We have come a long way in 40
years and our conference on May the
10th in Manchester will be a great
opportunity to hear from people who
have been active throughout the
years and to plan our next ventures.
LGBT History Month - Claiming
our past. Celebrating our present.
Creating our future.
