Mel Simpson has worked here at the Fox, on and off for 14 years. She started
her cooking career as an outside caterer, cooking for private dinner parties,
weddings and birthday parties, and then came on board here part time, to
help out. She worked her way up to head chef in 2004, and then left to have
children and a brief spell, working in Scotland. She has since returned to
work here 3 days a week and now is in charge of our delicious Homemade
puddings, as well as cooking plenty of our other Homemade dishes.
The Fox Inn is set in the heart of the
Windrush Valley, in what is known as the
Golden Triangle (10mins to Stow-on-the-
Wold & Bourton-on-the-Water and 5 mins
to Burford).
The Fox is set in a designated area of
outstanding natural beauty, perfect for
walking & cycling as a base starting point,
with the quite exceptional villages of Great
& Little Barrington, Taynton & Windrush all
within 1 mile.
Summertime is when the Fox Inn comes
into it’s own, with it’s amazing location
and views, fabulous riverside gardens and
terraces, alfresco dining and barbecue
facilities. Couple these with the 60 seater
conservatory dining bar, which opens up
onto the River Windrush riverbank, your
Summer lunch, party & dining options can
be covered rain or shine.
Families love the “Back to Nature” feel of
visiting the Fox, where feeding the ducks
and swans, watching the Red Kites &
Buzzards overhead and the trout jumping
in the river, brings together everything that
is great about the English Countryside.
The Fox upholds all the traditions of your
mindset of what a Great British Country
Pub should be, with local Donnington Ales,
Bensons fruit juices, Traditional Ciders &
Perrys and a superb selection of wines
from Oxford Wine Company.
Born and bred in the local area, Paul has
20 years as a landlord and a father Clive,
who was a local butcher for 50 years,
and now works in house as the butcher
and meat buyer, bringing a truly local
provenance to the seasonal specials menu
assembled by the Fox Summer Chef team,
who can cater for any event.
Alongside this, sits a very traditional
barsnack menu with all the classics, such
as Home-cooked Ham, Egg & Chips, Beer
Battered Fish & Chips, amazing local
Sausages with Mash & Onion Gravy, & the
pub classic - Scampi. With our authentic
Charcoal Barbecues and Summer Pig
Roasts, we bring alfresco dining to another
level.
We at the Fox, feel, with our experience of
organising Summer Parties, the beauty and
uniqueness of our riverside venue and the
