the views are everywhere. From early morning until late at night, the scene changes from
misty dawn to twinkling darkness.
Newly completed are the Britannia Rooms which have soft fabrics, a gentle palette of colours
and sparkling views from large windows which frame the stunning River views.
The Spa

calm the mind.
The River Restaurant

Peter Alcroft who celebrates each season with the light touch of a confident chef.
This corner of Devon
is one to be explored – from National Trust houses and gardens to
walks along the South West Coastal Path, forays along the River Dart on the paddle steamer
or an equally steamy train ride along the river banks, or it can be a quiet book in the sunshine
watching the world sail by from your perfectly positioned chair at Dart Marina.
It seems that same-sex couples are not
immune to the seven year itch! Latest
statistics show that in the 7th year of civil
partnerships, dissolutions rose by 20%. In
total there were 794 dissolutions and 60%
of those were female couples. The total
figures show that females are far more likely
to end a civil partnership with 3.2% of
all-male partnerships ending in a dissolution
compared to 6.1% of female unions.
Sociologists have theorised that women are
quicker to commit to a civil partnership
whereas males tend to be together for a long
time before they tie the knot.
The statistics come from the Office of
National Statistics and cover 2012 as well as
adding to the long-running totals since the
introduction of civil partnerships in 2005.
The number
of CPs in the
UN during
2012 was
7,037 which
is an increase
of 3.6% on
the previous year. The average age for men
forming a partnership is 40 while for women
it is slightly younger at 37.6 years. For both
genders, the age at which partners are most
likely to have a dissolution is 30-34.
The statistics are the last before gay marriage
affects the results. The debate and voting
through of the act happened this year and so
it is thought there will be a dip in the number
of CPs this year as couples hold-out for
marriage, which will be introduced next year.
New CP Statistics reveal 7 year itch
Since 2000, the Independent has published
a list of the most influential people within
the LGBT community today. Nominations
are sent into the paper and then a group of
judges decide the order of their influence.
This doesn’t mean the winners are gay,
lesbian and famous. They just must have
been instrumental in improving the lives of
LGBTs here in the UK and in some cases
around the world.
This year’s winner is Paris Lees, the editor of
META magazine. Paris is an award-winning
journalist and was also the first ever trans
cover girl for Diva magazine. She has also
appeared as Channel 4 and Radio 1’s first
ever trans presenter and she works with the
organisations All About Trans and Trans
Media Watch. The
judges of the Pink List
also noted that the
Daily Mail have had a
much better record on
reporting trans issues
since she had lunch
with the editor!
Other notable names on the list include
Clare Baling OBE and Peter Tatchell, who
were both awarded joint second place. Boxer
Nicola Adams was given fourth place and
Sue Perkins was in tenth place. There was
also a nod of recognition to Cath Hall,
the founder of the Albert Kennedy Trust
and David Gwinnutt, the inventor of the
Pinkjack flag.
