A letter from
the Mayor
Dear Residents,
I was very honoured to be re-elected as your Mayor for a fourth term of
office. I will continue to work on behalf of CTC and you, the residents of
Carterton.
I am conscious of the fact that the town is still in need of many more
amenities and that our roads are in a dreadful state. I can assure you now
that CTC constantly communicates with Oxfordshire County Council, who
are responsible for Highway Maintenance, to address the situation. We are
also very aware that we are in need of more housing development, and
we will work together with West Oxfordshire District Council to make sure
that it is the right development for our community.
More recently many of you may have read of the concerns about our
Skate Park. We have held a consultation with many of the users who
have advised us on what needs updating and replacing, and pie charts
displaying the answers to our questions on the night, can be viewed in
this issue. CTC will endeavour to commence updating and renewing in the
very near future. My thanks go to Mr John Hayes who took the time out
of his busy day to give his advice and support on this project.
In these pages you’ll find details of the Baton Charity, who recently ran
through Carterton during their annual run raising awareness of the issues
our armed forces, both former and serving, and their families have to go
through. With them the running team carry a ‘baton’; it’s the handle of a
stretcher that has seen action in Afghanistan. This ‘baton’ also appeared
in Carterton for Armed Forces Day; when you hold it, and think of the
stories behind it, it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
I am also delighted to report on the success of the St George’s dinner,
where we raised £5000. A huge thank you to all those who attended and
donated to the Mayor’s charities, as well as those who contributed prizes
for our auction and raffle – congratulations to the night’s winners!
I must also say thank you and well done to all of you who came to Fake
Festival on 25th July. It was a fantastic event that brought our community
and service personnel together in a day of celebration and night of
musical fun, and thanks to the RAF 70 Squadron for a wonderful flypast.
Finally, may I take this opportunity once again to thank those who donate
to the Food Bank.
I look forward to talking to you again soon.
Yours sincerely,
Cllr Mrs Lynn Little
Mayor of Carterton
