A safer Carterton
The Safe Places Scheme is a national scheme that helps vulnerable people feel
confident and safe whilst out and about.
If someone is lost, anxious, confused, feels they are being bullied, abused or
harassed while they are out, they can go a designated Safe Place.
Safe Places offer support to frail elderly people, people with dementia, those who
may have a physical or learning disability, people with mental health needs or
someone who feels unwell.
Safe places are identified by a nationally recognized logo that will be visible in
the window; they could be shops, community centres, libraries or cafes.
People who want to be part of the scheme can carry cards with useful contact
numbers on such as helpline and family contact numbers.
A member of staff can then phone the number on the card.
Even if people do not have a card they can still ask for assistance.
