and crafts and cooking. Activities
are focused on a particular theme
such as Mother’s Day, Easter or
Halloween. In addition the young
people have access to pool tables,
air hockey and computers. The
project works with a lot of RAF
children whose parents have been
deployed, cards are made with
these young people for them to
send out to their mums and dads.
“My team of staff are absolutely
amazing,” Hayley praises. “Without
them we wouldn’t be doing half the
things we’re doing.”
Last issue we covered the opening
of the new space in Ely Close for
the Airplay senior session to take
place in. The other age groups
remain in the Allandale Youth
Centre. “We want to start a youth
session every week for 5-7 yr olds
too,” Hayley reveals. “Hopefully
that comes in over the next few
months.”
Other future happenings include
Get Stuck In, a joint endeavour
between Airplay and Carterton
Community College that engages
8-14 yr olds in three weeks of
summer activities.
