The Labour Party
The Labour Party is the Party of equality. Throughout our history, both in government and opposition, and through our role as a
Stonewall Diversity Champion, we have campaigned for equality and diversity in the workplace and in wider society.
In government Labour worked with trade union partners, socialist societies and others to change the law and transform
attitudes. We worked to deliver landmark changes such as Civil Partnerships, the repeal of Section 28, equalisation of the
age of consent and outlawing discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, while in opposition we have led the way in
campaigning for the recent Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act. We are very proud of our record which has helped to transform
lives and we are delighted to celebrate it through LGBT History Month.

for LGBT equality within the workplace and wider society.
