Cash boost for
Eynsham’s dream
cycle path
A group from Eynsham have won their
battle to get a cycle path built along a
treacherous stretch of road. Bike Safe
came together with the aim of getting
a multipurpose path built between
Eynsham and Botley, an especially
dangerous stretch of road. The B4044
is the main route from the village to
the Botley side of Oxford city and is
used a lot by cyclists. However, it is
not on 50mph but also rather small
and winding, making it hazardous for
anything other than a motor vehicle.
Their plans for a ‘community path’
have taken a big leap forward as Bike
Safe have recently been awarded two
grants totalling £30k. The Vale of the
White Horse District Council granted
£5,000 for the project while a further
£25,000 came from the Department for
Communities and Local Government.
The propose route would follow the
A420 from the Swinford roundabout
and end at Dean Court where it would
link up with the city’s cycle paths. The
group estimates that the final cost will
be around £1.2mm so there is still a way
to go.
