Black Orchard Books
Black Orchard Books is a one man book
binding and leather working business
based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. From my
small studio space at the West Yorkshire
Print Workshop I design and hand make
leather bound books, journals, photo
albums and notepads plus a whole range
of leather cases, bags and guitar straps
among other things. My product list grows
every week as more and more people
ask me if I can make bespoke items. I’ve
been running Black Orchard Photography
for 8 years but alongside I have always
made custom props and objects for my
photo shoots and bookbinding had been a
hobby for a while. I had a request from a
customer who’d seen my props to make a
one off leather bound journal for her as a
shoot diary and from that one book, Black
Orchard Books was eventually born. I
hand make my books from scratch, folding
and stitching the paper and embossing
or tooling the leather before assembling
the whole thing to make each one off
commission. I also make custom media and
phone cases with hand tooled designs
and belts, guitar straps, wallets, bags and
satchels.
2014 will see me expand into the
wedding album and guest book market
using my unique selling point of one off
high quality, personalised commissions to
provide albums which will be something to
treasure for a lifetime.
