Everything they do is entirely made by hand in house from the design
stage to sewing on the ribbons so in addition to their ready to wear
range, they also offer custom design and colour matching services.
“Around a third of our business comes from custom orders which we love
doing.” says Rich. “Creating something unique to that customer is a real
privilege. One of our favourites was a custom circlet for a bride who upon
seeing it with her mum wrote to tell us ‘it’s so beautiful it brought us both
to tears! I have to say, we went a bit unnecessary at that ourselves – as a
designer, you can’t really ask for a better response that that, can you?”
A common request is colour matching – one easy way to do that is for the
customer to send them a snippet of ribbon in the right shade. Sometimes
it’s as simple as adding in a few beads or crystals of the right colour to tie
in with the rest of your outfit.
Masks aren’t all about hiding yourself away either – for most it’s a way
of showing your true self so they often get asked for particular animals.
One customer had seen their cat masks and asked if they could make her
a silver fox. They had a chat about it via e-mail to sort out all the details,
such as whether she wanted whiskers, agreed a time frame and set to
work.

Grin, Grimace and Squeak! is run by Karen and Rich who design and create unique masks
and accessories from their home on the NorthYorkshire coast. Over the years their business
has grown from simple masquerade masks to elaborate carnival pieces.
As Karen explains “The more we work with wire, the more possibilities we see,
now we have masks with beaks, horns and even whiskers!”
