Wally revs up for
another Bunkfest!
In 2014, BunkFest celebrates its 13th year of life - starting from a
small marquee in a pub car park to filling the KineCroft and providing
entertainment throughout Wallingford, on the River Thames and on the
Bunk Railway line.
The mainstage line-up is taking shape and there are loads of old
favourites and a few new bands as well. Headlining on Friday is Baka
Beyond, who are stopping off at the festival during their 2014 tour.
Sunday is headlined by Tarras, a great 6 piece band from the North of
England and the Boarders who play traditional and self-penned songs.
There will of course also be a whole host of other things to see and
do. The beer tent will once again be stocked full of all the best local
ales and ciders and there will be food stalls selling everything from
pancakes to pizzas. Morris Dancers from all across the country will also
be displaying their local traditional dances and there will be a massive
market to browse.
Most events are free - you only need to purchase tickets for the boat
trips, train trips, workshops and also for camping. See the website for
more details -
Who owns the
wobbly wall?
The Vale of the White Horse District Council is searching for the
owner of a wall in Wallingford Road that has become wobbly.
The 100-meter wall is in danger of falling onto the pavement and
a 30m stretch of footpath beside it was closed as a precaution in
January after council workers clearing ivy noticed the wall was
in need of repair. However, there is a snag, nobody knows who
owns the wall! And according to records, this confusion stretches
back for years. Wantage town councillors Jenny Hannaby and
Derek Verdin have both raised the issue in the past and looked
into who owned the wall so it could be repaired. In fact it is
thought the subject first came up 10 years ago! However, no
owner has ever been found and the saga is still continuing.
