welcome
Firstly, thank you to all those who said such kind things about Issue One of the
Carterton Crier. What we originally pitched as a 36 page magazine developed into a
publication made up of 100 pages; on seeing the finished product we were filled with
pride and your welcome words made us prouder still. However we are always looking
for ways to make it better, so please get in touch with any suggestions you may have.
It was a pleasure to meet many of you face to face at the Christmas Lights Switch-On
and we’re extremely grateful to the Town Hall for providing shelter following a fairly
aggressive downpour. A member of our editorial team was also recently invited to a
careers day at Carterton Community College, where he was asked to name the best
thing about his job; in answer he cited the fact he gets to vacate his desk so as to go
out and meet memorable people. Truly the most pleasing thing about doing the Town
Council publication is that it takes us into the heart of the town amongst its residents
– and into all the nooks and crannies in between!
And so from storybooks to social clubs, animals to artists, we believe Issue Two to
be diverse, thorough and current, and hope it’s something you’re happy to have
drop through the letterbox. Again we’ve been spoilt by the photography of Emma
Gray, Magical Memories, who has spent days out and about capturing the spirit of
Carterton. You can find her pictures of the Remembrance Service, the Christmas
Lights Switch-On and the Christmas Market in these pages.
Finally, we are so grateful to all the Cartonians who have been involved in this issue;
together we have created something even bigger than Issue One! Thanks again and
see you in the spring!
