SChoolS
Carterton Community College continues to go
from strength to strength. Our new sixth form
has started and the number of students (and ex-
students) attending courses is outstanding and a
perfect example of how valued and supported our
students feel at the college. We have won a national
competition that puts ‘Carterton Community College’
on the tailfin of ‘Bloodhound’, the fastest car in the world,
for all to see. Students have experienced Dismaland,
taken part in public speaking competitions such as
Youth Speaks, Politics in Action and guest presented
on Bungee Radio broadcast around the world every
Wednesday evening! We have come first and second in
regional and national cooking events, won a prestigious
Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) engineering award
for the second year running and held a Careers Fair that is
envied by all other educational institutions in Oxfordshire.
Our academic performance in the new Progress 8
measures of +0.58 is bettered by only one secondary
school in Oxfordshire, supporting the judgement of our
thorough Challenge Partners inspection who stated:
“Progress for the best 8 subjects is outstanding”.
Our Open Evening attracted 500 visitors and
prospective students looking around at our
teaching facilities and provision. With the recent
change to Oxfordshire County Council’s transport
policy (now funding only transport to the nearest
school) we opened our doors to new visitors from
local primaries. Pupils from Langford, Bampton,
Brize Norton and Clanfield all came to see what
the College was about and we have enrolled many
excited youngsters from these schools that can’t
wait to start in September.
As part of our federation, pupils are exposed to
“experiential learning”. To supplement the curriculums,
