The newly launched ‘Burford Institute
of Music’ offers an unrivalled range of
opportunities for our talented musicians,
whilst others flourish as a result of our
impressive drama, sporting and extra-
curricular provision. The school is set
in 36 acres so we have plenty of space
for a whole range of activities. We hold
numerous sporting events throughout the
year and our outdoor classroom, known
as ‘The Acre’, is ideal for giving students
hands-on experience with science projects.”
With around 200 students, the Sixth Form
at Burford is very strong. The wide range
of subjects on offer (29 ‘A’ Levels and
BTECs this year) and the extra-curricular
opportunities and extension programme
attracts new members into the Sixth
Form each September. This year four
students have gained places at Oxford and
Cambridge, with many others receiving
offers from prestigious Russell
Group universities.
Boarding at Burford is a unique and
rewarding experience. With fewer than a
hundred students the boarders described it
to visiting Ofsted inspectors recently as ‘a
big family’. Nine nationalities across a range
of year groups create a dynamic and varied
international feel in an atmosphere that is
warm, safe and secure.
Visiting Burford you get a unique sense of
the school’s history but it is very much a
school of the 21st century, reaching out to
encompass new experiences and explore
new methods of learning in an atmosphere
that is both exciting and invigorating.
