Do something amazing
Make a difference to children’s lives
More people are being sought in West
Sussex who can make a difference
to a child’s life through adoption and
fostering.
During National Adoption Week West
Sussex County Council is continuing
with its “No barriers,
No bars” campaign,
encouraging people
to find out more
about adoption and
fostering – whatever
their ethnicity, age, sexuality or
marital status.
Jenni* and Nicola* are one couple
who have done just that, becoming
foster carers a year ago.
Jenni says: “Despite being the only
same-sex couple on our training
course, at no point did we feel as
though we were being treated any
differently – it was all very positive
and easier than we expected.”
Peter* and Dan* have been providing
a home to a variety of children and
young people in West Sussex over the
past two years.
Peter said: “We both love being foster
carers – you have a chance to make a
difference to a child’s life, help them
develop and enjoy a stable home.
It’s challenging, but it’s brilliant. We
don’t feel as though we have ever
been treated any differently to anyone
else at any stage – from applying to
actually fostering.”
Peter and Dan have become long term
foster carers for one young person
who has flourished in their care and
who can now benefit from a stable
and secure home to take him through
into adulthood.
Peter Evans, West Sussex County
Council Cabinet Member for Children
said: “Foster carers and adoptive
parents come from all
walks of life. I
would
encourage
anyone who
feels they have the
appropriate skills to support
a young person to get in touch
with us today.”
