The Swan
If you had to list the ingredients for a perfect village, it would almost
certainly include a perfect pub. Quintessentially British complete
with cricket pitch, river and green fields The Swan in Swinbrook is
exactly that, but with the added advantage of also being a beautiful
boutique hotel.
To many, the name ‘Swinbrook’ will ring a bell. The chances are that
if you recognise the name of the village it is because of their most
infamous inhabitants, The Mitford Sisters. Controversial and of
endless fascination to the public, the sisters grew up in the village
and three of them are buried at the local church. But it is the last
living sister, The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, who owns The
Swan that in fact forms part of the Chatsworth estate.
