Founded by Charter in 1571, Burford School caters for students
from 11-18, both boarding and day. Although traditional in its
atmosphere, uniform and annual cycle of events, Burford is
thoroughly contemporary in its outlook, and there is a collective
feeling of pride in the school. Academic success is pursued at all
levels with many students gaining places at universities within
the Russell Group. The school has a well-deserved reputation for
sporting excellence and there are always opportunities to explore
drama, music, outdoor pursuits and extra-curricular activities.
Mrs Haig, Headteacher at the school for the last six years, says that
‘our Academy status has given us flexibility, allowing us to prioritize
areas within the curriculum that we feel are important to our students’
success and wellbeing whilst delivering a high standard of education
throughout the school. We feel strongly that it’s important to develop
every student, helping each one to discover the thing or things that
they are good at.’
Boarding at Burford is a unique and rewarding experience. With
around ninety boarders everybody quickly feels at home and with
over nine nationalities there’s a very international feel in this most
English of towns
Burford’s history gives the school its unique flavour, but it is very
much a school of the 21st Century, reaching out to encompass new
experiences and explore new methods of learning.
