Stepping out of the London bubble once again this year, the LGBT History Month
Pre-launch will be at the Bramall Concert Hall, Birmingham - 28th November 2013.
It
s the country
s second biggest city, but how much do you know about Birmingham?
Vibra nt Birmi ngham
What started out as a collection of small
Anglo-Saxon settlements grew quickly into
the prosperous city. During the industrial
revolution Birmingham thrived and there
were three times more patent applications
than any other British city, such was the
inventiveness of the Brummies! Although it
suffered heavy bombing during the war, the
city has more recently seen huge amounts
of regeneration and now has a vibrant city
centre which attracts thousands of visitors
every year.
With an unfair reputation as a less-attractive
city, Birmingham does in fact have a lot of
beautiful features. For a start, there are over
8000 acres of parkland and open spaces, the
largest of which is the beautiful Sutton Park.
The Council House, which is the home of
Birmingham City Council, is in the classical
style and a trip to Victoria Square where it
is located will quickly dispel any myths that
Birmingham is an ugly city!
There are also a host of museums and
galleries to take a walk around. Birmingham
Museum &Art Gallery houses works by
the Pre-Raphaelites as well as a significant
number of old masters. There is also the
Museum of the Jewellery Quarter and of
course Cadbury World to take a look at as
well.
The gay scene in Birmingham is vibrant
to say the least! There are several bars to
choose from and a few nightclubs as well,
the best known of which is the Nightingale
Club. To find out more about the scene there
is a dedicated website which is worth looking
at before you visit -
