Shop Carterton Day

Carterton’s first Shop Carterton Day
was a brilliant start to getting the
residents to support their local shops!
It was also nice for local businesses
based from home to come in to the
market square to show people what
they have to offer. Free & Easy, the
Charley Alan Band and James Morgan
all performed. It was also the first give
away of Shop Carterton Bags which
tied in very well with shops starting
to charge for plastic bags. I was very
happy to hear that Adam's Orchard,
Barry’s Butchers and Barista Coffee
Shop (who actually ran out of sausage
rolls!) had a much busier Saturday than
normal.
We had children’s attractions such as
a fairground ride supplied by Bradley
Hatwell plus a Punch and Judy show,
a bouncy castle, glitter tattoos, candy
floss, popcorn and a hot dog machine
all courtesy of Steve Gibson and The
Fun Factor.
I think events like this are important
to show the shops in Carterton that
the Town Council and Chamber of
Trade want to work together to help
improve business for them. Of course
this will only work if the shops want
to be helped. We hope to have more
events like this to bring the community
together and to make Carterton a
better town for businesses to set up in.
I really want to make Carterton a
town that businesses want to come to
because of our excellent community
spirit and capability to work together
as a team and help each other’s
businesses become a big success.
One step at a time but I think that
community/ business events are a
good start to making this dream come
true!
