A space to call their own
Youth clubs are closing all over the country at an alarming rate, but we are
incredibly pleased to announce that on Thursday 26th November, Wing
Commander Leah Griffin opened our newly refurbished youth club at Flat 10,
Ely Close. Young people had told us that they were missing a dedicated space
in Carterton to call their own, and we are delighted to be able to provide them
with one. When we realised that the flat had huge potential for this sort of use,
the Airplay staff worked with an older group of young people to redecorate and
redesign the flat into a youth club.
None of this would have been possible without the fantastic support of the Royal
Air Forces Association and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. The RAFA
kindly donated £5,000 to install a basketball court in the area outside the flat,
and the RAF BF provided £10,000 more to refurbish the youth club, in addition
to the on-going support that the RAF BF provides through funding the Airplay
project, providing youth support in Carterton. We are incredibly grateful for
the support that these two groups have provided for us, and we can’t wait to
welcome more young people through our doors.
