Welcome
So that was summer then! Went a bit too fast, as always. But the
good news is that there is plenty to look forward to. For a start, there
is the whole Christmas thing. While some think of it as an annoying
distraction, others find it stressful but there always seems to be
something that everybody can enjoy.
But one thing a lot of us miss at this time of year is the end of Pride
season. There are a lot of dedicated pride-goers out there who try
to visit as many pride events as possible. There are also some who
travel all over Europe to wave their rainbow flag. However, as the
weather turns cold and wet, the pink cowboy hat gets consigned to the
cupboard under the stairs once more.
Pride is not just a summer thing though. It sometimes seems that in
a country where we can get married and have almost totally equal
rights that having a sense of pride is becoming less and less important.
But this isn’t true. For a start, there are organisations like Britain First
and UKIP who are standing in the wings ready for their chance to
re-introduce homophobia into the UK. And of course there is still
homophobic bullying and there is an article in this month’s magazine
all about Anti-Bullying Week.
However, we should also have pride because of the good things! We
have some talented people in our little tribe both now and throughout
history. LGBTs are known as vibrant, fun loving and creative and we
should always take pride in the things we have directed our endless
energy towards.
It is in this spirit that LGBT History Month was born. Sue, Adrian and
their team are once again getting ready to launch the theme for this
month and we have several pages dedicated to their fantastic event at
the Museum of St John in London. Make sure you take the time to see
what is going on, help where you can and get your tickets booked for
what is expected to be a great event!
Enjoy your winter!
