The cult of fame has changed a lot in recent years. Stars used to arrive on our screens
and in our newspapers as ready-formed, talented people who have worked hard to be
where they are and have served their celebrity apprenticeship. But the rise of reality
television has put a much higher price on normal, everyday people put into exceptional
circumstances which we tire of as soon as they lose their ordinariness. But a by-product
of our new obsession with

’
is that the real lives of LGBTs are getting
more and more exposure on TV screens around the world, which also means some tricky
questions can be faced head-on by the viewing public.
