The Chipping Norton Literary Festival runs from 24th – 27th April and includes workshops, talks, readings,

Rachel Joyce
Rachel Joyce has written more than twenty afternoon plays for BBC Radio 4, as well as adaptations for Woman’s
Hour and a TV period drama for BBC 2. In 2007 she won the Tinniswood Award for Best Radio Play. Her first
novel, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, won her Writer of the Year at the 2012 National Book Awards.
Gill Hornby
When Gill Hornby set her début novel at the school gates, she sparked a frenzied auction for world rights. The
Hive became an immediate bestseller, appealing to everyone who has ever run the gauntlet of the school run
Alpha Mothers. The story examines the lives of four women – Heather, Georgie, Rachel and ‘Queen’ Bea – as
they navigate the social minefield of motherhood.
Claudia Roden
Claudia Roden is author of many cookery books, spanning a range of cuisines which reflect her diverse cultural
history: being born in Egypt, educated in Paris and now living and writing in England.
She is most famous for her 1968 publication A Book of Middle Eastern Food, which helped spark a culinary
revolution in the UK and introduced the exotic offerings of the Middle East to many households. The Book of
Jewish Food has won many awards and is widely seen as the encyclopaedia of Jewish cooking. Claudia also
fronted her own television series on the BBC in the eighties, Mediterranean Cookery.
John Dougherty
John Dougherty – author, poet and songwriter – was born in Larne, Northern Ireland, and began writing and
illustrating comics during secondary school. His career began as a primary school teacher, having qualified in the
early 1990s and working in the profession for over 10 years. Inspired by his deputy head during his training, he
was a regular reader of children’s books, which in turn, led to a love of writing.
