Truck festival has announced a fantastic line-up
for this year’s event. The Cribs, White Lies, Peace,
Andrew WK, Stornoway, Cerebral Ballzy, Swim Deep…
+ loads of brand new bands as well as more late
night antics and a Barnival!
The Cribs return as headliners, 10 years after they
first appeared at Truck (in the Barn, we think). Three
Jarman brothers from Wakefield, West Yorkshire
who were joined by ex-The Smiths and Modest
Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr between 2008-11, by
their third LP, the Cribs had become “The biggest
cult band in the UK”. In 2012, the band received
the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’
award at the annual NME Awards, and now they
celebrate the 10th anniversary of their previous Truck
appearance by headlining the whole shebang.
Ealing post-punks White Lies are epic co-headliners.
Formed in 2007, after writing songs they felt didn’t
suit their original band Fear of Flying, they signed to
Fiction Records and rapidly achieved major success.
They have gone on to release 3 albums, the latest
being last year’s top 10 hit Big TV. White Lies’ music
has attracted comparisons to Joy Division, Editors,
and Interpol, and songs like There Goes Our Love
Again, To Lose My Life and Bigger Than Us will provide
a fittingly spectacular climax to the Truck stage.
Truck also have the absolute privilege of
welcoming MR Andrew W.K., all the way from the
U.S.A, to the cow shed. He will no doubt lead
Truck into the biggest hootenanny ever seen. Flying
the indie-rock flag are Worcester near-neighbours,
the much-acclaimed Peace, who starred on 2013′s
NME tour and featured in the BBC’s Sound of 2013
poll, amongst considerable media acclaim, and not-
misguided comparisons to Foals and
Vampire Weekend. Another returning favourite
is Stornoway, the band formed by former Oxford
students Brian Briggs and Jon Ouin along with
brothers Oli and Rob Steadman.
That’s not all… Brooklyn punkz Cerebral Ballzy,
fronted by the impeccably-named Honor Titus
and known for their love of 80s punk and a keen
interest in drinking, girls, pizza and skateboarding
will be presenting one of their famed energetic live
performances in the hot and sweaty confines of the
barn stage, and Swim Deep, fresh from tours with
Two Door Cinema Club and Mystery Jets, also make
the short hop from the West Midlands to join the fun
on the farm.
Last year, in keeping with its history as a hotbed of
new talent, Truck welcomed over 20 new artists
discovered via the festival’s innovative social media-
based BAND APP, including some of the stand-out
performers at the festival. The app is open once
again and has already received hundreds of entries.
What’s more, Truck-goers can listen to the entrants
and have their say on which should be chosen.
Truck Festival returns for 2014 on July 18th & 19th, as
always at Hill Farm, Steventon, near Oxford. The Cribs
and White Lies to headline.
Tickets are on sale now priced £74 from www.
