How we helped Stan
Sergeant Stan Hartill was just 19 years
old when he joined the RAF and when
the Battle of Britain broke out he
found himself looking after Spitfires.
Stan, now 95, was supported by
the RAF Benevolent Fund after the
maintenance charge on his flat was
increased and he struggled to cover
the costs. We helped Stan with these
costs and also provided funding to run
his daughter’s car, which enables him
to get out and about and maintain his
independence.
Stan said: “I wanted to stay in my
own home but when the maintenance
charge increased I couldn’t stretch
to it.
“To this day I really appreciate the help
the RAF Benevolent Fund has given
me – I’ll be indebted to them for the
rest of my days.”
How we helped Stuart
Former Corporal Stuart
Robinson was seriously
injured in an IED explosion in
Afghanistan in 2013. He lost both
his legs in the explosion and with
a young family needed extra
support. We provided Stuart
with a specially adapted trike to
help with his rehabilitation and
part-funded major works to his
home, which will allow him to
live independently.
