Carterton Crier Issue 3_Lowres - page 24

Both my parents are teachers
for forces schools overseas, so
growing up around the British
Forces meant that when I launched
my radio career, BFBS was the
perfect choice. After university in
Bournemouth I joined BFBS and
moved to Gibraltar to present the
Breakfast Show. When I heard that
BFBS was opening a radio station at
the largest RAF base in the UK I put
my hand up for it straight away!
Even with my forces background,
RAF Brize Norton still gave me the
ultimate ‘wow’ factor. I’d probably
be one of the spotters outside the
fence with some binoculars if it
weren’t for the fact that I’m allowed
in and can see the aircraft up close.
It’s a busy, cool, crazy place with so
much going on, and the best thing
is that it’s part of my job to tell the
world what happens here. The scale
of operations and capability of what
goes on at Brize is something you
have to see to believe, and meeting
the people that enable these
incredible operations is brilliant.
I love having people on air with me
and you’ll often hear the men and
women behind the aircraft talking
about their lives in Oxfordshire.
BFBS Brize Norton was launched in March 2014 as part of the British
Forces Broadcasting Service’s UK Bases network.
Since then the station has been broadcasting live on DAB digital
radio across Oxfordshire, serving both civilian and forces listeners.
