Carterton Crier Issue 3_Lowres - page 6

A letter from
the Mayor
Dear Residents,
Firstly I hope you have all had a chance to have a look at the new gates at the
entrances into Carterton. I for one think the spring decor enhances the approach to
our town, making it more attractive for residents and visitors.
We’ve also replaced the very worn out planters, hanging baskets and bollards in
the town centre, marking the start of a regeneration. Hopefully you’re pleased with
what has been installed on the town centre crossroads.
You might have noticed that we are gradually replacing the oldest benches around
the town. 14 new benches have been replaced to date with more to follow shortly.
The Council made a conscious decision to purchase the particular brand we’re
using as they are made of recycled plastics and also made in the UK. We hope it
will encourage our residents to continue their good record for recycling and maybe
even convert some that don’t! There’s more on this initiative in the Crier’s Green
Carterton section.
Moreover our thanks go to West Oxfordshire District Council who have agreed to
replace a number of their rusty Black Knight bins to help us in our endeavour to
improve the town centre.
If you have a

Thank you very much to all of those who attended the Fly the Flag for the
Commonwealth event on 14th March in celebration of equality, the Freedom of
the Town parade on 16th April, where we proudly granted RAF Brize Norton the
Freedom of Carterton, and the beacon lighting for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s
90th Birthday on 21st April.
Not so long ago I attended an RAF BN awards ceremony, where I received a
BRAVO Special Award in recognition of valued and outstanding service to the
community and RAF BN. As Mayor I’m used to giving out awards so this was
something different for me. It was very humbling to think that somebody would
want to thank me for something I love doing, supporting repatriation and our
military charities, and I express my deepest gratitude to RAF BN for this accolade.
We’ve thanked Carterton Community Magazine in the welcome, but I would like to
do the same here. The magazine has been an integral part of Carterton’s history
and 40 years in print is a tremendous achievement. I applaud all those involved for
giving the town a superb publication and may I send my sincere best wishes for
whatever the future holds.
May spring be wonderful for all Carterton’s residents – there’s certainly enough
going on to help make it so. See you next issue.
Yours sincerely,
Cllr Mrs Lynn Little
Mayor of Carterton
