Top of the Class…10/10
1. Tell us about some of the work you are carrying out around
promoting LGBT+ equality?
We want the experience at Cardiff University to be a very positive one. Prospective students
have access to various league tables and we know they look at this data and make their
choices based on a range of topics from course to accommodation, student union to graduate
employability. We also know that how LGBT friendly a University is makes a considerable
impact on those choices. We’ve worked collaboratively with our Students’ Union and our
Student LGBT+ Association to ensure that for the past two years we’ve received 10 out of
10 in the ‘Gay by Degree’ University Guide that Stonewall produce, the only university in
Wales to achieve this mark for 2015 and one of only six universities in the UK as a whole.
Promoting equality is not only an important factor for our students but also for our staff.
For the past four years the University has featured in the Stonewall Top 100 employers for
LGB staff and this year our staff network Enfys was awarded ‘Best Welsh Employee Network
Group’. In the wider community we are a visible presence as a University and an employer at
Cardiff Pride and we recently sponsored the Iris Festival for the second year.
