The Way He Looks
A coming-of-age drama based in Brazil, Daniel
Ribeiro’s full-length feature is based on the 2010 short
film entitled I Don’t Want to Go Back Alone and stars
Ghilherme Lobo, Fabio Audi and Tess Amorim. The
story centres around Leonardo, who is a blind high
school student struggling to gain his independence.
To the disappointment of his best friend, Giovana,
he plans to go on an exchange program abroad.
When Gabriel, a new student in town, arrives at their
classroom, new feelings blossom in Leonardo making him question his plans. The Way he Looks is
available on DVD pre-order now for release in February.
Love is Strange
After 40 years together, Ben and George finally get
married. However, soon after George loses his job
and the couple are forced to temporarily live apart
and look for a more affordable home in the aggressive
New York real estate market. While George and Ben
struggle to live apart, they also have to deal with the
new arguments and struggles of the families they are
living with. Both John Lithgow and Alfred Molina are
brilliant in their respective roles as the aging couple
and Love is Strange presents a much softer view of
New York life than the Woody Allen films which brought the city to prominence in the movies.
The film will be at select theatres and available on DVD in 2015.
The Imitation Game
Another look at the life of Alan Turing, but this time
starring the fantastic Benedict Cumberbatch. The film
portrays the desperate attempt to crack the German
Enigma code. The film also shows Turing struggling
to come to terms with his homosexuality despite his
engagement to fellow code breaker Joan Clarke. There
are plenty of films out there about the life of Turing,
but this film aims to be the definitive version and is
well researched and beautifully shot. The Imitation
Game will be at cinemas in mid-November.
