secondly we’ve recorded a short film for
the It Gets Better campaign website. This
second initiative has featured members of
the staff network and senior leaders in the
university talking about both the challenges
of being LGBT+ but also talking about how
things get better and how supportive the
university is from an equality and diversity
perspective. Initiatives that are coming up
include a joint student and staff awareness
raising of Transgender Day of Remembrance
and World Aids Day, a month of activities
around LGBT History Month and gearing
up for IDAHOT Day in May and then
Cardiff Pride again next summer.
6. Lastly, why should somebody apply to work or study at the
University, generally speaking?
The University promotes a clear message to
all that equality and diversity is an integral
part of what we do and that we are proud
of what we’ve achieved. We recently
launched our It Gets Better campaign video
and one of the many emails of praise that
the network received was from a member of
the Friends of Enfys network saying that:
‘the work the LGBT+ network does is
amongst the best of the reasons for why I’m
proud to work at Cardiff.’
From a student perspective the quote from
one of our students says it all:
‘Cardiff University has so much to offer its
students; it is the biggest university in Wales,
the newly renovated Students Union has loads
of societies and sports teams and, of course,
practically every building on campus has been
used to film Doctor Who! But for LGBT+
students, Cardiff offers so much more. Getting
involved in the LGBT+ community has been
the best experience possible; I’ve been all over
the country, debated motions at NUS LGBT
conferences and have been elected as LGBT+
Officer.’
