SUMMER 2013
6
Being hot on the music scene is one thing, but when it comes to gay prides, there is a whole different set of
artists who hit the headlines. Entertainers who are not well known to the general public can still be a big name
when it comes to Pride events and there are many who have the circuit as the mainstay of their performing
career. Here are a few of the artists to keep an eye out for this year.
Ryan Jagger
Having been around for several summers
now, Ryan is best known on the gay scene
and Pride is his thing. A totally unsigned
act from Cleethorpes, Ryan’s music is
euphoric electro pop with some old skool
beats thrown in for good measure. He is
gay, he is hot and always draws a crowd
wherever he performs. His biggest hit to
date was B.Y.O.B, which was a dance floor
hit. He also did a saucy strip for the Gay
Times Naked Issue. It’s a busy year again
for Ryan as he makes his
way around the UK.
Catch him at Oxford,
Gloucestershire and
Bristol as well as
some further flung
pride events such as
Leeds and Bradford.
Booty Luv
Cherise Roberts and Nadia Shepherd, met
while working with R&B collective Big
Brovaz. Booty Luv’s first success was with
Boggie 2nite, which was initially intended
to be a Big Brovaz track. They were part of
the Head Candi label for most of their early
career, but decided to take a break to pursue
solo careers. Now back together, the girls
are hitting the gay music scene and this year
they can be seen at Birmingham, Oxford and
Essex pride.
Lucy Spraggan
At the tender age of just 21, Lucy has already
had quite a full life. She once trained as a fire
fighter and also worked as a tour guide in a
cave. Music was always her thing though and
she has developed an interesting mixture of
modern folk and hip-hop. She was a runner
up in the Pop and Acoustic category of Live
and Unsigned and also made it through to
round 5 of the X Factor before illness forced
her to withdraw. Her biggest hit was Last
Night, which reached number 11 in the
charts. She will be appearing at Brighton
and Birmingham Pride this year.
Stooshe
Put together after a series of auditions held
in Top Shop, the girls in the band have
been together since May 2010. After a year
sorting their look and style, the band were
signed to Warner in August 2011
and their biggest hit so far has been
Black Heart which rocked the charts
last year. The band name means several
things in slang – something expensive, a girl
‘acting better than they actually are’ or being
stoned. The girls from London can be seen
at Birmingham and Brighton Pride.
Stacey Jackson
Originally from Canada, Stacy lives and
works in London these days. Fame was
calling at an early age when her father, a
well -known graphic designer, named a
range of greeting cards after her. She initially
chose to work in television and in her career
worked for prestigious companies such as
CBS and BBC America. Music was always
there in the background though and she
regularly performed in a Motown tribute
band. Then a friend suggested she sent her
vocals to a DJ to mix and all of a sudden her
music career took off. Well known on the
dance scene, her biggest tune to date is a
collaboration with Snoop Dogg called Live
It Up. Catch her at Birmingham, Leeds and
Brighton Pride.
