The Cornerstone Meadow
Returns!
Now in its sixth year, Cornerstone’s free annual Beer and Music Festival is
back to take over Didcot from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 August. With a choice of 25
specialist beers and ciders from Loose Canon Brewery, great food hot off the
BBQ and fantastic bands, this free festival has become a firm favourite in the
Didcot calendar.
Louise Birt, who programmes the event for Cornerstone, tells us more “Our
beer and music festival is a unique gem in the music year in Oxfordshire.
We champion new bands and musicians all year long in our free bar gigs,
booking the best and the brightest on the local and national scene. This is the
culmination - truly extraordinary musicians and the best range of local beers
that you get at a festival AND it’s free entry.”
Friday night kicks off the weekend with a bang, as the awesome 5-piece
Duchess hit the stage. With African rhythms and funky tunes, this Oxford based
band are sure to get everyone up and dancing. Headlining the Saturday night
stage is the simply stomping M.A.I.A, a 4 piece acoustic band from Yorkshire
playing all sorts of disco folk pop on ukulele, trumpet, banjo, mandolin or
whatever else is lying around! Their highly acclaimed album ‘Pepper Stars’ was
Time Out’s Album of the week and received many 4 and 5 star reviews. The
band are championed by Guy Garvey and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 music, and
were picked for Best of 2012 on Radio 4s Loose Ends Culture Show. Don’t miss
them!
Other highlights include the exquisite Ellie Wiliams - a talented Devon based
singer / songwriter, Wallingford locals Band of Hope - a folk/pop music
collective who’ll pick up anything from cello to trumpet, and Reuben’s Rocket
from Wantage - a favourite at Cornerstone. There’s no muddy fields, no
overcrowding, no expensive tickets, just three days of FREE music and the best
local beers, ciders, food and music.
