Victim Support the charity who supports all
victims and witnesses of crime recently launched
the Rainbow Bridge as a specialised service for
victims of domestic abuse who identify s Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual and/or Transgender (or anywhere
else on the spectrum) in Cardiff and The Vale.
The initiative has been funded by the Big Lottery
Fund until April 2018 to support and empower
LGBT victims of domestic abuse.
It was launched on October 8th 2015 where we
had guest speakers such as Stonewall Cymru’s
Luke Young, the Deputy Police and Crime
Commissioner Sophie Howe and AM Mark
Isherwood who also sponsored the event. There
was also a live performance from Taking Flight
and workshops from Trans*Form Cymru and
the All Wales Report and Support Hate Crime
Centre. The day was a great success and there was
media coverage on BBC Wales News, BBC Radio
Wales and Made In Cardiff.
1 in 4 LGBT people are a victim of domestic
abuse, however it is highly under recognised and
there were no specific domestic abuse services in
Wales to support. Our mission is to:
• To support and relieve suffering for victims of
domestic abuse from the LGBT community
• To empower and increase confidence levels of
the LGBT community
• To raise awareness of the issue and increase
referrals for support across the board
