It was an extremely strong year for Wales,
which was the most featured region in the
Top 100 Employers list outside of Greater
London.
Government was the strongest represented
Welsh sector, with a total of three
organisations in the Top 100 Employers list.
After this, two organisations each from the
health and social care, local government and
higher education sectors featured, followed
by a third sector, a legal and a banking and
finance organisation.
Across Britain, Lloyds Banking Group and
the National Assembly for Wales take 2nd
and 3rd place, while Cardiff University leads
the education sector at number 20.
Four Welsh organisations - Swansea
University (the second top performing
education organisation), Cardiff and Vale
University Health Board, Betsi Cadwaladr
University Health Board and Rhondda
Cynon Taf County Borough Council – make
the Top 100 for the first time.
Victim Support also makes a notable
appearance, as the top third sector
organisation in the list.
Andrew White, Stonewall Cymru Director
said: ‘With 12 Welsh employers in this
year’s index and 4 new entries into the Top
100, Wales is punching above its weight in
supporting LGBT equality. Making the list
is a huge achievement and I’d like to thank

Workplace Equality
Index 2016
Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers list is compiled
from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index,
a powerful benchmarking tool used by employers
to assess their achievements and progress on LGBT
equality in the workplace.
This year saw over 400 organisations take part
in the Index, the highest number in its 12 year
history. Each participant must demonstrate their
expertise in 10 distinct areas of employment policy
and practice, including networking groups, career
development, training, and community engagement.
The top 12 employers in Wales are:

(Health and Social Care)

(Local Government)
11. Carmarthenshire County Council (Local
Government)
12. Eversheds (Legal)
