SUMMER 2013

The world-famous festival in Cropredy grew out of the village's fete.
Folkrock band Fairport Convention played at fundraisers for the village
during the 1970s in the gardens of Prescott Manor, the home of former
Labour government minister Dick Crossman.
By 1977 the band was putting on its own show on farm land: this was
arguably the year of the first 'proper' festival. In 1979, Fairport Convention
decided to cease touring but a year later the band staged a one-day re-
union concert in the village. This was so successful that it developed into
an annual event. The early festivals in Cropredy attracted first hundreds
then thousands of fans. By the 1990s, the audience was in five figures
and this has continued. The site capacity is 20,000. In 1999, Cropredy was
expanded from two days to three days.
“Probably the most reliably blissful summer entertainment Britain can offer.”

American rock icon Alice Cooper will headline the opening day of
Fairport's Cropredy Convention on Thursday 8 August 2013. It is
expected to be Cooper's only UK public appearance during the year.
Alice Cooper's legendary stagecraft and showmanship will mean a
uniquely theatrical rock extravaganza for 20,000 fans at the three-
