We are all Equal! Fact ….no north/south divide in Wales
South Wales Police has once again been
recognised by Stonewall as one of the most
gay-friendly organisations in Britain and
was placed as the joint top police force
(with North Wales Police) in Britain in
the annual Stonewall Workplace Equality
Index 2014, reflecting achievements and
engagement with and by their LGB staff.
But South Wales Police still wants to
build on this as an employer and service
provider to further the confidence of every
community it serves.
“We have a sustained track record for
inclusion and equality.” Said Chief
Constable Peter Vaughan. “I am extremely
pleased that we have once again been
recognised by Stonewall as one of the most
gay-friendly organisations in Britain and
placed as joint top police force in Britain,
alongside North Wales Police.
“As ever, I want us to do more to improve
the experience of my staff, and I am
committed to build on this success and
further improve the confidence of every
community we serve.”
Mark Milton, Strategic Director of Human
Resources at South Wales Police, said:
“We are extremely pleased that South
Wales Police has retained a top 20 position
in Stonewall Equality Index. It is a privilege
to feature in this list as recognition of
our continued efforts to demonstrate our
understanding of our lesbian, gay and
bisexual community and staff.
“It is great to see the index featuring so
many new entrants and many prominent
organisations from both public and private
sectors and this will hopefully encourage
better employment practices across the
board.
“Throughout the coming year we look
forward to continuing positive work with
our staff and will continue to support our
employees through a range of initiatives
starting with guidance for managers to be
published during LGBT history month in
February.”
Incorporating and embedding inclusive
working practices into the values of any
organisation is good for business, good for
staff and good for the community around
them. South Wales Police is passionate
about driving inclusivity within its
workplace for these reasons, respecting
all staff and recognising that officers and
staff who feel able to be themselves in the
workplace perform better and are more
likely to reach their potential.
South Wales Police seek to recruit unique
individuals who have a ‘can-do’ attitude and
be able to work under pressure, prioritise
workloads and use their initiative. In return,
they are rewarded with an immensely
satisfying job where they are making a
significant contribution to safeguarding the
communities of South Wales.
